"It is considered very bad luck to kill a spider. Considering the many, many people who have killed spiders it certainly doesn't make the future bright, according to folklore! No matter how scary and ugly they are, however, having one in your home was considered good luck as the spider would protect the house and family from any misfortune. To have a spider living in your home meant that happiness would be yours so long as the spider remained. A spider dangling from the ceiling meant that money was coming your way and the small, red spiders, no matter what they were doing or where you found them, also meant financial reward. Seeing a spider outside was also considered lucky.

I must be lucky, since I have so many in my house, including huge wolf spiders. Years ago, I saw a small one in my basement and the only weapon I had was some water so I meanly, poured some on the spider and the mom suddeenly appeared and grabed the baby in its mouth and saved its life and ever since I saw that I could never kill another, even though they sometimes jump on me and bite me when I do laundry. There seems to be less of them over time so they dont bother me too much and, since they love their family so much, how could you kill one.

Deletehowever, it is considered unlucky to have a brown recluse dangling from the ceiling in your bedroom. word has it that this is a sign of painful injection-site lesions and blood poisoning to come.
