WASHINGTON (AP) -- A mother duck has been reunited with four of her babies after firefighters rescued them from a storm drain.
D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter says firefighters at Engine Company 9 at 16th and U streets in northwest Washington noticed a duck quacking frantically in front of a storm drain near the station Monday morning. When they took the cover off the drain, they found four ducklings swimming about six feet down.
Etter says the firefighters took all the ducks to a nearby police station and handed them over to animal control.
