It’s surprisin’ how much you can look forward to the morning when there's a horse waitin’ on you.

Graceland is the home of two rescued horses that were going to be slaughtered. Max and Merlin enjoy 14 acres of green grass and beauty on the The King's land. Priscilla is a long time horse lover and has saved these two beauties from a mindless practice.

In riding a horse, we borrow freedom.

This part of The Black Stallion is essential horse viewing pleasure. I know its kind of strange to post just a portion of a movie but I grew up on this film and watch this part regularly, especially when I am feeling lazy about all the work I have to do to keep two horses. This desert island scene when the horse and boy make friends is beautiful.

sorry, I haven't watched "puppies thrown into river" or "kitty left in trash can" videos. But I hope revenge is swift.

Chiro my Love

Nobuyoshi Araki's cat, Chiro, lived to be 22 years old and was there for her owner after his wife died. He said that “No woman has showed as much love for me as Chiro did,” and he loved her from the beginning to the end of her life.

The Cove? No, Denmark.

A coming of age ceremony in the Faroe Islands of Denmark. Children and families watch and take part in this brutal tradition. This year at least 668 pilot whales and 21 Risso’s dolphins have been slaughtered. For more information:

Also, if you haven't seen The Cove, it is on animal planet tonight. Be sure to watch Ric O'Berry's new show Blood Dolphins to see what has happened since The Cove.

The Singing Creek Where the Willows Grow, the Mystical Nature Diary of Opal Whiteley reprinted by Benjamin Hoff is a magical book written in the early days of the last century by a young, inquisitive girl of about 7 yrs old. If you have ever thought that nature has mystical qualities, looking through the eyes of this young girl may show you the deeper relationship we all have with animals and nature. This tragic story of a woman who spent 50 yrs of her life in an insane asylum also shows the insight we can obtain from looking through the eyes of a person who sees and experiences things differently. Her diary was shunned as a fake, but I believe it makes no difference when she wrote it; it is an extraordinary piece of work. She believed it to be true and that is all that matters. Opal was given a lobotomy and was left in a tiny cell until her death at the age of 95. I love this book and I love her. RIP Princess

Dolce

"Dolce is a young female pit bull, and she is on the small side. She is extremely sweet with humans, and only has issues with other dogs. If you know of anyone that would be open to foster her please let me know, as I have not been able to find anyone yet. The family said that if they cannot find her help soon they will be forced to euthanize. It is very sad!

Dolce's family is willing to make a donation to cover costs and foster care. They are very concerned with finding her a loving home and are willing to help in any way they can. A trainer is also going to provide free services."

Belka (in english "Squirrel") and Strelka ("Little Arrow") were sent into space for one day in Sputnik 5 .... They orbited the Earth 18 times. And came back alive.
Heroes Smiling Space Dogs...
After this amazing and traumatic space-travel, one of the puppies of Strelka, Pouchinka ("Fluffy") was given by Nikita Khrushchev to Caroline, the daughter of J.F. Kennedy. The puppy was checked by the White House Security to be sure it wasn't a spy-dog ! Later her own puppies were nicknamed "Pupniks" by JFK...

Those Bitter Sweets

Marie Prevost

Thankfully, she did not become "her doggie's dinner." She was found dead with bite marks on her legs due to her dog's desperate attempt to wake her. RIP Marie.
